I definitely got a negative vibe from your photo. The way most of the image is dark makes me look for all the objects and find out what they are. The lighting reminds me of a dim basement that smells of mold and is quite a little bit scary.
You were quite successful at showing the rusty texture in your image: that adds up to the uneasiness the viewer gets from the image.
The message is transmitted in a representational way. Photography shows the objects as they are and the quality of lighting and texture sends the message across. The texture and the lighting are making your message stronger.

Genia you definitely were right with that feeling of wanting to find out what all the objects are. In my mind, it was dad's old toy set from when he was a kid and his son or daughter found it in the basement/attic like you mentioned. So the scary mysterious uneasiness is right on target. These were the "obvious" meanings in my message. But I also wanted the warm light to give it a deeper meaning with the feeling of an open door to new opportunities/creativity. Kind of like the glow of a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I should have pushed that further.
